Today, even as a kid growing up in Senegal might look up to Papiss Cissé and a young German child might try to master Marcel Schmelzer’s stutter-step lunge, they are wearing the T-shirts of American stars like Rob Gronkowski and LeBron James and Frank Gore. They are drinking Coke Zero and wearing the Under Armour Tug gloves advertised by Blake Griffin and LaDainian Tomlinson.
